Flying in the Cirrus SR20

I was really excited. I could not sleep the night before. It has always been my life long dream to actually pilot an aircraft. Last weekend, that dream came true. Courtesy of DiGi via their ‘I Am Curious’ campaign, Jason and I could get on a small plane and fly around KL. Plus I get to pilot the plane… just for a little while but it was good enough for me.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/527d98f6.jpg?t=1287042749

Security was rather tight and so was their regulations. All vehicles parked outside the premise and you walk in. I guess it’s to prevent any unwanted incidents. DiGi was kind enough to arrange transport to enter the premise so we do not have to talk all the way in.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/20829c0d.jpg?t=1287042757

As we waited for our turn to hitch a ride in, the constant roar of aircrafts taking off, landing and taxing on the runway was already nudging up my excitement level. Upon arrival at the hangar, the sight of the aircrafts and the wide open space of the runway redlined my excitement level.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/d79c469a.jpg?t=1287042761

The day had started really well. It was a cool morning with clear blue skies which beckons.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/7269029a.jpg?t=1287042764

The aircrafts on stand by also beckons. My heart was racing as I paced through them. Such elegant machines they are.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/5e1aa646.jpg?t=1287042774

This is the aircraft we were assigned to; the Cirrus SR20 4 seater. It’s a light aircraft.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/028271d6.jpg?t=1287042765

Here we can see the size comparison. hehehe.

There were 4 other groups besides us. And since they were earlier than us, they went up first and we were the last to go up in the air.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/7d59b89e.jpg?t=1287042777

After one group comes back, the next group goes up. So while waiting, we had sometime to look around.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/97fd4b56.jpg?t=1287042773

.. and we found this… Rolls punya engine! Fuhyor! Hebat!

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/1a3b1501.jpg?t=1287044940

Very soon it was our turn. I get to sit infront because I get to pilot the plane. Weeeee!!! And the aircraft has quite modern avionics!

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/806cb0b7.jpg?t=1287046473

Check out the multi-function display. And the side-mounted control stick. The entire cockpit is surprising spacious. Still quite tight, probably like a kelisa. But the rear has got plenty of leg room.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/4812a811.jpg?t=1287044941

After some chit chat with the tower, our captain… Captain Razeef proceeded to the runway and we are off!!

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/3b31a48e.jpg?t=1287044945

I took video. :)

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/e975deb6.jpg?t=1287044948

And we are off the ground!!

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/02f32192.jpg?t=1287044947

The feeling is really raw. You feel everything little bump and turbulence.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/8e24d44c.jpg?t=1287045576

Jason feeling rather ecstatic. Especially when he learnt that we were going up in the Cirrus SR20 instead of the Cessna 100 series. Plus… another secret weapon of the Cirrus SR20 which put us all at ease……

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/1b71f33a.jpg?t=1287045774

Hidden behind this cover is the release lever for the CAPS or Cirrus Airframe Parachute System. It’s specifically designed by Ballistic Recovery System (BRS) for Cirrus. And that the Cirrus SR20 is the first every aircraft to implement this system.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/d8f21465.jpg?t=1287046013

We flew around KL for about 20-30 minutes.

A wonderful view of KL city from the air.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/f4b0db88.jpg?t=1287046031

Oh.. and the highlight of the day…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/e9cb4b15.jpg?t=1287046199

I get to pilot the aircraft for a while. Nothing much. Just a couple of banks, dive a little bit then pull up a little bit.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/106a41c8.jpg?t=1287044949

Happy man!!

Oh.. Captain Razeef also did a quick negative G dip which lifted us off out seats screaming!! Woo.. fun!

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/118287af.jpg?t=1287046480

Before we had time to recover from our excitement, we were headed back to the airport.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/e6dc65c8.jpg?t=1287046481

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/27ef6bc2.jpg?t=1287046481

Touch down!!

When asked, Captain Razeef assured me that it’s not difficult to fly. After a while, you will get used to it and it would be like driving a car.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/MISC/Cirrus%20Flight/a9e24c5b.jpg?t=1287046894

It was a real fun day. An opportunity of a lifetime to get into one of these aircraft and fly around KL. I would not mine having one of these for myself. Anytime can make a day trip to Penang for some Prawn Mee.

Check out the movie!!

And last but not least. Thanks Digi for the opportunity. !!

Last Sunday’s Behind the Scenes

Sunday morning came.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/4b1335b9.jpg?t=1286164473

And someone was very happy. He gets to test out his new toy in a real life photoshoot.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/c56d142b.jpg?t=1286164583

This is his new toy.. Nikon’s AF-D 85mm f1.4D… the lens he has been drooling over ever since he got his first DSLR.

And of cos..

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/dcd3a8dd.jpg?t=1286173905

Me with my new toy :) The much awaited 24-70 f2.8 ...

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/6ceca17e.jpg?t=1286164468

… and then Peter came and introduced him to Nikon’s AFS 85mm f1.4G Nano. Wahaha. Anyways, I dun think kena much poison. I on the other hand… Hmmmm…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/ece7673e.jpg?t=1286164467

I decided to keep on eating my lunch and the two of them examined each other’s equipment. >:)

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/54580802.jpg?t=1286164818

And here’s another poisonous lens. Wonderful lens with a very different angle of view.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/d02c8203.jpg?t=1286164821

Taken with the AFS 24mm f1.4G Nano lens. It’s a wide lens and thus gives you the wide perspective, yet… it gives you a very nice creamy bokeh. An effect seldom seen in wide angle lenses. But photo is of course a bit mis leading because the finger is rather close to the lens which will throw the background off focus.

Moving on…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/a8b95edd.jpg?t=1286164997

After the formalities, we started the photoshoot. Minna is a cheeky little lady.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/db14fb56.jpg?t=1286164997

Finding another perspective?

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/5f235f53.jpg?t=1286165025

Peter at work.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/bfbaa491.jpg?t=1286165026

Oh.. hmmm.. that’s me!! hehehe

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/56e92547.jpg?t=1286165026

And me again!! Oh.. we went to Fullhouse in Sunway Giza for this photoshoot. They were very accommodating. Very nice place indeed.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/a57f2f69.jpg?t=1286165316

Erm… Peter.. the model is over here… hehehehe

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/b046b50f.jpg?t=1286165044

We also ventured outside. And of course inside Sunway Giza as well.

Oh.. and there’s one thing I notice…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/703d7beb.jpg?t=1286165323

The pangsai shooting pose.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/f6806e65.jpg?t=1286165322

Besides giving you a lower angle..

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/e5b87d3c.jpg?t=1286165321

.. it gives you a bottom up view..

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/2133609d.jpg?t=1286165316

.. and it makes you easier to hide behind objects so as to snipe your subject..

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/da53ce4e.jpg?t=1286165356

.. and.. apparently it’s quite appealing to the ladies…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/f19a61a7.jpg?t=1286165355

… they approach you and asks you to take their picture!!

Fuah.. must try!!

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/8ce5290d.jpg?t=1286165933

Tandem photo-taking?

All in all, it’s a nice photoshoot and a day out to the new place called Sunway Giza. Very airy, very comfortable place with lots of choice for food and drinks.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/8facb398.jpg?t=1286165953

Check back soon for updates on the photoshoot outcome. In the mean time, here’s a couple teaser photos.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Minna%20Hoong/c3310eb9.jpg?t=1286165951

More to come. So check back soon ya.

An Itch Scratched..

Last week, both Jason and I acquired a vital addition to our lens ‘collection’. I do not like to use that word “collection” as it would brand us as lens/equipment collectors. We sincerely do hope that whatever lenses we buy/acquire, we put to good use. Anyways, it was the two lenses we have been eyeing and drooling over ever since we started photography… and when it was announced.

34eeaac2.jpg picture by shutterfingers

So we wondered when we can bring our lenses out for a real world test drive. Then Peter, a friend we had not met for a very long time contacted us and 12 hours later, we were on location armed with our new toys as well as the model. All three of us had new toys with us. :)

We are preparing some photos. So in the mean time, here are a couple of teasers.

A Little Behind the Scenes

It was a glorious morning. I walked out of my house to be greeted by morning dew covered leaves, flowers, cars and damp road. Our drive to the park was uneventful. The only exciting part was when we missed the newly opened flyover and had to take an alternative route.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/979d7967.jpg?t=1283062412

The park was beautiful. Neat, clean and just the occasional empty bottles and cups lying around because of one or two irresponsible people. Other than that, there were quite a number of people living the healthy lifestyle.

We wasted no time trying to catch the morning light, but the sun played hide and seek throughout the morning. This was one of the first few RM388 Portraits Promotion sessions.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/0f653058.jpg?t=1283062423

The park was filled with people from all walks of life. Most of them came with their kids… and some with their doggies.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/91b68c1e.jpg?t=1283062422

It was indeed a challenge to frame the subject and the background without the crowd.

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/75d615c9.jpg?t=1283062783

but we managed anyways. Most of them were courteous enough to move out of the way or wait for us to click. Thanks guys :)

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/99079231.jpg?t=1283062424

When the sun become a little bit too overwhelming to stay out in the park, we moved indoors. A quick of change of clothes later, we were back in action!

It was a quick and fun photoshoot. It was still morning when the photoshoot concluded, so to end the photoshoot…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/5421a2d1.jpg?t=1283063126

.. a nice hearty breakfast…

http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss200/shutterfingers/Model%20Photoshoot/Michelle%20Portrat%20Promo/44f73762.jpg?t=1283063126

.. and a cup of freshly brewed coffee.

What a great Sunday morning! Met up with two wonderful people, one of whom is Jason’s long lost colleague, while the other is someone from my kampung! Talk about coincidence! Plus, we had a nice morning walk around the park (while photoshooting) and finally a nice healthy breakfast. And we were back home before the morning was over!

Ahhh… all Sunday mornings should be like this :)
